The last decade or so have seen significant international momentum around the field of health policy and systems research and analysis (HPSR+A).
This paper reports on a situation analysis and inventory of HPSR+A post-graduate teaching conducted among the partners of the Consortium for Health Policy and Systems Analysis in Africa (CHEPSAA). The analysis highlights: (i) the fluid boundaries of HPSR+A and the range and variability of courses in this field; (ii) the important but not exclusive role of schools of public health in teaching; (iii) large variations in courses' required time investments; (iv) diverse student target audiences; (v) the limited availability of distance and non-classroom teaching; (vi) and the continued importance of old-fashioned teaching styles and activities.
